Brussels, my city.

Suddenly,

hit by an invisible danger,

changes visibly.

Empty,

Quiet,

Nature shines in its spring splendor, the buildings color peacefully in the sun

And the resident of Brussels are suddenly reduced to a passing, frightened extra in what it once threw so long.

This exceptional period is an unprecedented moment in the history of a city, which suddenly stops and then gradually, slowly but steadily regains its dynamism.

As a brussels photographer, I documented this 'interbellum' photographically in the hope of giving this chapter a special place in its history.

This is a selection of the complete series that will be released on a later date, in a form yet to be decided.

Bruxelles, ma ville.

Tout à coup,

frappé par un danger invisible,

change visiblement.

Vide,

Silencieux,

La nature brille dans sa splendeur printanière, les bâtiments se colorent paisiblement au soleil

Et les Bruxellois se voient soudain réduit à un passage, effrayé en plus par ce qu'il a  dominé si longtemps.

Cette période exceptionnelle est un moment sans précédent dans l'histoire d'une ville qui s'arrête soudainement puis retrouve progressivement, lentement mais régulièrement son dynamisme.

En tant que bruxellois, j'ai documenté photographiquement cet «interbellum» dans l'espoir de donner à ce chapitre une place particulière dans son histoire.

Brussel, mijn stad.

Plots,

getroffen door een onzichtbaar gevaar,

verandert zichtbaar.

Leeg,

Stil,

De natuur schittert in haar lentepracht, de gebouwen kleuren vredig in de zon

En de Brusselaar wordt plots gereduceerd tot een voorbijgaande, bange figurant in wat het ooit zo lang onderworp.

Deze uitzonderlijke periode vormt een ongekend moment in de geschiedenis van een stad, die plots stilvalt en dan geleidelijk, langzaam maar gestaag haar dynamiek terugvind.

Dit ‘interbellum’ heb ik, als brusselaar, fotografisch gedocumenteerd in de hoop om dit hoofdstuk een bijzondere plaats in haar geschiedenis te geven.
